💚 THE GREEN BAND INITIATIVE

Here at Bullants Netball Club, we pride ourselves on being a supportive community where everyone can learn and grow—and that includes our umpires!

The Green Band initiative is designed to identify and protect umpires under the age of 18 officiating netball. “If they wear green, they’re under 18” is the core message of the Green Band Initiative backed by Netball Australia, this policy has been rolled out nationwide across member organisations to safeguard minors. It aims to address poor sideline behaviour and ensure that any complaints or issues are managed according to the Netball Australia Safeguarding Children & Young People Policy (effective 1 February 2025).

We have both emerging umpires and umpires from the junior umpire program on our games in Juniors and GO. They are learning! Please support them and all officials.

Respecting & supporting umpires & officials:

Spot the green: Youth umpires will be wearing green arm bands as a reminder that they are young people who are still developing their skills.

Keep it positive: Please do not comment on umpiring decisions during the game, or criticise officials with your players afterward.

Lead by example: Show our young players what good sportsmanship looks like through supportive cheer & positive encouragement!

THANK YOU FOR UPHOLDING OUR POSITIVE CLUB CULTURE!

Here at Bullants Netball Club, we pride ourselves on being a safe, inclusive, and positive community. We are incredibly proud of how our players, parents, and spectators consistently lead by example on the sidelines, and we thank you for always bringing the right spirit to the game.

To ensure our courts remain a fantastic environment for everyone, we expect every member of our community to continue championing these standards at all times.

What championing our Code of Conduct looks like on game day:

  • Respecting everyone: Treating all players, coaches, opponents, and officials with complete kindness and inclusivity.

  • Positive sideline support: Cheering enthusiastically for great play and effort, while leaving the coaching to the coaches and the umpiring to the umpires.

  • Encouraging development: Remembering that our young players and emerging umpires are learning and growing every single week.

The Bullants community is built on mutual respect. We do not accept behaviours that go against these values or disrupt the positive environment our players deserve.

Thank you for your ongoing commitment to keeping our sport safe, encouraging, and fun for all! 🐜

However, this serves as a timely reminder of the standards we expect and uphold. We fully anticipate every member of our community will continue to champion our Code of Conduct at all times.
