Grading and Training This Wednesday

Hi Bullants family.

We had a successful beginning to our grading sessions (and training for our younger players) last Wednesday. We will be doing it all again this week, but with the girls mostly on court so that we can assess their game skills. The sessions are:

5.30 – 6.30 : NetSetGo, Juniors Go and Juniors
6.30 – 7.30 : Intermediates
7.30 – 8.30 : Seniors

It would be great if we could have some people to help us by umpiring these sessions so that the coaches and coordinators can focus on assessing the players. Please see me prior to the session if you can help with this.

Uniform

From 5pm you can try on uniforms for those who need to get new dresses. Just come into the pavilion. The web store looks to be operating correctly again, so you can order on-line.

Registrations

If you haven’t yet registered it is vital you get this done by 7pm Tuesday (tomorrow!!!).

Coaches

We are still looking for coaches for our junior, intermediate and (schoolgirl) senior teams. If you are interested in coaching a team please contact Heather Bond, our coaching coordinator at bullantsnetball@gmail.com. As we are going to be focusing on the girls’ game skills this week it is important for anyone who wants to coach to come to the appropriate session to participate in this process. Please make yourself known to Heather, Ruth or me prior to the session commencing. Remember players/parents, if you don’t feel confident coaching by yourself we are happy for you to coach a team with a friend or we can organize a mentor for you.

Umpires

We are looking for players and parents to join our umpire team. Our umpire coordinators, Julie Glover and Meghan Quinn, are preparing a program to provide support and training to umpires at all experience levels.

Umpiring is great way to develop leadership and communication skills and is a good addition to a resume. You can nominate to umpire regularly, or just help out occasionally to keep your skills up.

We will pay you for every game you umpire at the following rates:

No experience – $10 Umpiring course (Including SCNA junior umpires course) – $15 C Badge – $20 B Badge – $25 A Badge – $30

We are also looking for people who can mentor and coach our umpires. So if you are an experienced umpire please consider helping us with this role.

If you are interested and would like more information about umpiring for Bullants please contact Julie on bullantsnetball@gmail.com.

See you all on Wednesday!!

The uniform shop is broken 😕

I have contacted the provider and am waiting for them to fix it so please be patient. If it is not up by the weekend i will set up an alternative.

Parking – avoid Makin Pl

Bullants junior families are advised to park in the King St carpark and NOT in Makin place as there is a truck blocking the road and a lot if tree debris in the SCNA carpark.

Prepare for 2018 Winter Netball

Hello Bullants Netball family.

Your committee has been planning for the 2018 winter season. It is important that you get your registrations in by 7pm Tuesday (TOMORROW) so that we can be ready for the first grading/training session on Wednesday 14th February. If you are having trouble paying on-line as part of the registration process then please contact Ruth Mahon at bullantsnetball@gmail.com who can assist you.

We cannot run the club without coaches, umpires and managers, so we’d appreciate if you would consider taking on one (or more) of these roles, information about which is below.

Coaches

If you coached in 2017 you can expect to hear from our coach coordinator, Heather Bond, about your interest in coaching in 2018.

We are also looking for new coaches, both from our current player cohort and from our parent group.

Players – coaching is a great way to build your own netball skills as it forces you to think about how to develop netball skills in others. It is also such a thrill to see kids you’ve been coaching when they “get it”.

Parents/adults – obviously we would love for some experienced netballers to consider coaching our teams, but even if you aren’t overly familiar with the rules of netball and are interested in coaching, we would love to hear from you. One of our objectives for 2018 is to develop a coaching structure where we pair a player with good netball experience with a parent/adult who can provide structure and behaviour management for the team. This is especially important for the younger teams and younger player/coaches.

If you are interested in coaching or getting more information please contact Heather Bond at habond@hotmail.com. If you are planning on coaching this season then we’d love for you to come to the first grading/training session that will be held this Wednesday (more details below).

Umpires

Games cannot be played if we don’t have umpires to officiate. We are looking for players and parents who may be interested in joining our umpire team. Our umpire coordinator and assistant coordinator, Julie Glover and Meghan Quinn, are preparing a program to provide training and support to our umpires which, along with the SCNA junior umpire program, should provide enough skill development for our umpires that they feel confident to manage their allocated games. We will also assist those umpires who are interested in progressing to get their badges.

We know that umpiring can be daunting, so we will ensure that umpires are allocated to matches based on their skill level. An added incentive could be that we will pay you for every game you umpire at the following rates:

No experience – $10
Umpiring course (Including SCNA junior umpires course) – $15
C Badge – $20
B Badge – $25
A Badge – $30

We are also looking for people who can act as mentors/coaches for our umpires. So if you are an experienced umpire you may wish to consider helping us with this role.

If you are interested and would like more information about umpiring for Bullants please contact Julie on bullantsnetball@gmail.com.

Managers

Every NetSetGo, Junior, Intermediate and (school girl) seniors team will need a manager. The role is not onerous, but it lets the coach focus on skill development and getting the kids on court each week. The role of the manager is:

  • Organise the team’s fruit roster (probably not required for the seniors);
  • Manage the team’s rostered turn in the canteen. This should probably only happen twice in the season and it is expected that all families will assist with this, but the manager will coordinate;
  • Ensuring there is someone available to score each game. This may mean a roster, or someone may volunteer to do this. It’s up to each team manager to decide that.

Once we have the team lists finalised we will be back in touch seeking volunteers, but wanted to give you time to consider whether this might be a role you could take on.

Grading

This Wednesday, 14 February, is our first grading/training session and all players should arrive at least 10-15 minutes before the start of the sessions listed below:

5.30 – 6.30 : NetSetGo and Juniors
6.30 – 7.30 : Intermediates
7.30 – 8.30 : Seniors

Grading will take place over three weeks unless we are able to finalise teams early. We need some help at these grading/training sessions as follows:

  1. Umpires for the grading games
  2. Coaches to assist with grading
  3. Coaches to begin training the NetSetGo and JuniorsGo teams.

If you are able to help or have any queries about anything at all please email us at bullantsnetball@gmail.com.

Second Hand Uniform Wanted

We have families who are keen to get second hand dresses. Please let us know if you have a dress for donation or sale or bring it to the pavilion on Wednesday. We will have uniform try ons from 4:30pm.

Looking forward to seeing you all on Wednesday!

2018 Develop a Diamond

2018 Develop a Diamond Nominations Open

Nominations for the 2018 Develop a Diamond Program are now open. Athletes aged 14-16years – born in 2004, 2003 and 2002 are encouraged to nominate and trial for the Develop a Diamond Program.

The primary objective of the Develop a Diamond Academy (DADA) is to provide athletes with exposure to a high performance environment by providing an individual based program for athletes who show the potential to progress through the Netball ACT athlete pathway in future performance cycles. DADA is the entry program for athletes into the Netball ACT Academy and Representative structures and is delivered in accordance with the Netball Australia Develop a Diamond curriculum.

In accordance with the Netball ACT Athlete Selection Policy the DADA selection trials will be held on the following dates:

  • Monday 12 February 2018 for athletes 14 years old (born in 2004)

2018 DADA Structure

After a review of the delivery, structure and key objectives of the current DADA program Netball ACT has recognised the need to change the format in which this program has previously operated. Through changing the structure and duration of the DADA program athletes will have greater exposure to a high performance environment across a calendar year with increased exposure to competition and match play to assist with the transfer of learnings from their training environment.

In 2018 the DADA program will run in a camp based structure rather than a weekly training environment. The program will run from February to November comprising of 6 camps, specialist sessions for each court area and 2 match play/games weekends.

Bullants – New Committee for 2017/18

Hi everyone. I hope you are enjoying the twilight social comp at the moment.

I would like to introduce myself as the new Bullants Netball Club president. I feel very excited to take up this role and know I am joining a team of passionate netballers.

My first order of business is to express, on behalf of everyone at Bullants Netball, a big thank you to the people who spent time and energy to ensure Bullants was the premier non-school club at SCNA in 2016/17:

  • President – Teigan Single/ Karen Duck
  • Vice President and Public Officer – Karen Duck
  • Treasurer and Registrar- Ruth Mahon
  • Secretary – Heather Bond
  • Umpire Coordinator – Meaghan Quinn
  • Uniform Coordinator – Brittany Cattanach
  • Coach Coordinator – Meg Weston
  • Committee Members – Annette Brown, Nicola Duck, Emma Mahon

Special thanks needs to go to Ruth, Heather, Meaghan, Brittany and Emma who have put their hands up again for 2017/18. Your committee this year is:

  • President – Bernadette Mihaljevic
  • Treasurer & Registrar – Ruth Mahon
  • Secretary & Public Officer – Heather Bond
  • Uniform Coordinator – Emma Mahon
  • Umpire Coordinator – Julie Glover
  • Coach Coordinator – Heather Bond
  • Committee Members – Meaghan Quinn, Brittany Cattanach, Emma Mahon (event coordinator)

But now here comes the plea….….. we did not receive any nominations for the position of Vice President for the 2017/18 committee. The job of the Vice President is to attend (and chair in the absence of the President) the three committee meetings held each year and participate in the discussions/decisions relating to the management and direction of the club. This is not a particularly onerous job, but one that we need to have filled.

As an incorporated association in the ACT we are required to fill ALL executive positions on the committee. If we haven’t got a VP in place by the end of the twilight social comp we will have to begin discussions with the Office of Regulatory Services about the ongoing viability of Bullants Netball Club.  I’m sure none of us wants that, in particular the players from the 4 NSG SET/Junior Go teams, 4 Juniors teams, 5 Inters teams and 5 Seniors teams who played in the 2017 winter comp!  If you think you can spare about 6 hours in a year to attend meetings then please send us an email, your club needs you.

Twilight Social – Updated Draws

Last Wednesday was a fantastic start to the social season.  Thanks to the parents/carers who have taken up the challenge of team organisation.

Please come to the courts game ready. This means ALL JEWELRY REMOVED and NAILS TRIMMED.

Inters and Seniors need to check the draws as there has been changes to all divisions.  This means Dim Sims you have a bye this week.

See you at the courts.
