2019 Winter Netball Preparation

Hello all Bullants families.

We hope you are having a wonderful summer with lots of love and laughter over the Christmas break.

Although we’re still experiencing scorching temperatures, your committee is beginning preparations for the 2019 winter competition. We will be providing registration details etc. as soon as we have the necessary information from SCNA. In the meantime we would like to advise, and seek some help, on the following:

Equipment Audit

During the break we have undertaken an audit of all the Bullants equipment. We plan to purchase new training balls, game balls and kit. Prior to doing that, though, we ask that you let us know if you have any Bullants kit at home. We noticed that there were some press-on black bibs missing, a WA and a GS set.  Also, at least one kit bag was not returned at the end of either the winter or summer comps. If you have one please let us know so that we can get it back to replenish it in readiness for the coming season.

We are also seeking assistance from our community. We have plenty of training bibs which are perfectly fine, except for the elastic sides. We would love it if a few parents or older players would be prepared to do some repairs on the bibs. We can provide you with all the elastic, cotton etc that is needed. We just need some people to provide their sewing skills and time. Please email us if you can help with that.

Pre-season Preparations

We hope everyone has been maintaining some basic fitness over the summer so that you will be ready for the first week of grading. SCNA has deferred the start of the season by a week or two, so Bullants will have our first grading (NetSetGo training) night on Wednesday 20th February. As is our usual practice, NetSetGo and Juniors will be from 5.30-6.30, Inters from 6.30-7.30 and seniors from 7.30-8.30.

We will be in touch again in the next week or so with registration details. Until then, get some fitness work in and enjoy the last of the break before school resumes.

Final Twilight Game

This evening is the last game of the Twilight season. Despite a few random rainy days it has been a successful season with the club fielding 17 teams.

Contratulations to all the players and thank-you to all the volunteers.

Could those who are looking after the kit bags please remember to pass them back to Bernadette at the end of your game tonight.

I hope you all have an enjoyable and safe holiday season and look forward seeing everyone at the start of the winter season in the new year.

Weather and twilight season coming to an end

This evening is the second last night of twilight netball for 2018. Keep an eye on the weather – hopefully it will clear up. The SCNA site will have updates on the schedule.

Next week – 5 December – will be the last game.

Can teams please ensure that kit bags are returned next Wednesday. Bernadette will be at the courts and would like to collect them in the pavilion right after the game.

Thank-you to everyone for making the twilight season such fun – players, umpires, parents, sausage cookers, supporters.

If you are interested in helping out during the winter competition please get in touch (bullantsnetball@gmail.com). We have all sorts of roles that provide a great opportunity to be a part of our Bullants community. It takes players, coaches, umpires, managers, treasurers, uniform sorters, kit bag packers, bloggers, sausage sizzlers and much more to build a strong club. All are welcome.

Weather – again

Due to wet weather, all grass court games, NSG 1 Yr 3 and Junior Go games are cancelled for today.

SCNA will make a decision, to be posted on their site at 4.30, for games played on the hard courts.

Weather

Update: 5.30 games have been cancelled for today.

SCNA will make a call on the other games at 5.30pm – check their website (link on RHS of this page).

Given the weather today please keep an eye on the SCNA website as that will be the first place that any cancellation will be notified.

Netball can be played in light rain. Games are usually only cancelled if rain is particularly heavy or there are any issues with lightening.

Game update

Unfortunately Navajo will not have a game this week due to the opposition forfeiting.

Twilight – 31 October

Hi Bullants families

Wednesday is looking warm – so remember to bring/drink lots of water!

No Bullants teams have a bye this week.

At 5.30:
Chinook, Chickasaws, Potawatomie, Apache, Cherokee, Mohicans, Sioux and Arapaho.

At 6.30:
Mohawks, Navajo, Shawnee, Cree, Allsorts, Vegies, Braves

At 7.30:
Chiefs, Curtin Champers

Remember to let your team know if you can’t make it on court.

TWILIGHT SOCIAL NETBALL

Hi Bullants families

We hope you enjoyed the first round of Twilight Social Netball last week. There was some excitement with new players finding their teams, getting umpires to the correct courts etc. But overall we think the first week went well.

Tonight we have the following teams playing

At 5.30:
Chinook, Chickasaws, Potawatomie, Apache, Cherokee, Mohicans, Sioux and Arapaho.

At 6.30:
Mohawks, Navajo, Curtin Champers, Shawnee and Cree

At 7.30:
Allsorts

Chiefs and Braves have a bye this week.

A few families have raised with us the “issue” of Halloween falling next Wednesday. Please let you team manager know tonight if your Halloween activities will prevent you from playing next week.

See you at the courts!

Twilight Season Starts Tomorrow

Tomorrow marks the start of the 2018 Bullants Twilight Social Netball season and it runs until Wednesday 5 December.

All registered players have been allocated to teams (via email). The draw is up on the SCNA website – please check to see what court you are on, and what time you are playing as some teams will swap time slots over the course of the season.

The Twilight season is a social competition so there is no training and the club does not allocate coaches to teams. That also means parents, carers, older siblings or friends are pitching in and helping to look after the kit bag and allocate players to positions. Please pitch in and help if for some reason there is a gap. And please be supportive of those who are doing the sorting.

It would be good for players to arrive in plenty of time tomorrow (at least 20 minutes before start time) to find your court, have a warm-up, and for the manager to have enough time to prepare the players to take the court.

While it is a social competition the usual rules of netball apply – e.g. short nails, no jewellery (including piercings).

Things can be a bit confusing this first week. Look out for a Bullants t-shirt to ask questions – members of the executive will be on site/umpiring/playing etc. If you need to collect a kit bag for the junior time slot (5.30) tomorrow please go to the storage cupboard near the ladies toilet before 5.10.

Thanks to those who have volunteered to umpire for the Twilight comp. By now you should have received an email with your team allocation. Please let Julie know at Bullantsnetball@gmail.com or 0432260912 if you are not available for your nominated slot. We are still looking for umpires for once off games or if you’d like a regular slot it is not too late to let us know!

We are looking forward to a really fun season.

AGM Update

Thank-you to all those who came to our end of season party. This year we celebrated the fun and success of our 19 teams in the 2018 winter season. That is quite a few players, coaches, umpires, managers, scorers and supporters to pull together week in week out.

A special thank-you to the tireless volunteers who put their time and energy into the smooth running of our club and who made the season such a success.

The full list of 2018 player awards can be found below. (If you were unable to collect your award email bullantsnetball@gmail.com)

And, importantly we marked the changing of the guard. Ruth Mahon, the backbone of the club over many years, is passing the netball to a new group of volunteers (yes it takes a group to replace Ruth) to take the club forward into the Twilight competition and beyond. We wish Ruth all the best for the future and thank her for her many years of dedication to our club, our players and our association. Her cheerfulness, kindness and wisdom have set the benchmark for us all to aspire to.

At the AGM we had a reshuffle of the committee to fill the Ruth shaped gap. This sees Bernadette Mihaljevic take on the crucial task of Treasurer and Registrar. Thank-you Bernadette for your excellent guidance as President during 2017-18 and for taking on this important task for the new season. Other positions were re-confirmed and Belinda James joined as a general committee member.

In summary, the 2018 AGM elected the following Bullants Executive Committee:

  • President:  Meghan Quinn
  • Vice-President:  Tanya Parkin
  • Treasurer and Registrar:  Bernadette Mihaljevic
  • Secretary and Public Officer: Heather Bond
  • Uniform Coordinator:  Emma Mahon
  • Umpire Coordinator:  Julie Glover
  • Coach Coordinator: Heather Bond
  • Committee Member: Belinda James

The club is in good financial health and we are thinking about opportunities to make the next seasons even better. So if you have thoughts or suggestions please email them in for consideration (bullantsnetball@gmail.com).

As with all volunteer clubs many hands make light work. All help is welcome. You do not need to have particular expertise and being a volunteer looks great on a CV (hint hint for those students out there). If you would like to find out more, please email us at bullantnetball@gmail.com, or ask one of the committee members at the courts.

Lastly, the Twilight competition gets under way on 17 October, with registrations closing tomorrow.

Meghan Quinn, President
