Uniforms: Our uniform shop is only open on Wednesday’s at training. On Saturday’s the Pavilion is filled with SCNA volunteers running the competition. If you have already ordered and paid for your uniform, please come and see us on Saturday at the Bullants Banner near the Touch Football field. If you haven’t got a uniform, please wear a white t-shirt and black shorts/leggings/skirt and we will have overhead bibs for your team.
Weather: the forecast for Saturday is not looking good, but the games will go ahead unless the courts are dangerous or there is lightening nearby. Any game cancellations will be made at each individual timeslot, so even if the timeslot before you is cancelled, please be prepared to play your game. Wet weather notifications are first communicated on the SCNA Facebook page, https://www.facebook.com/southcanberranetballassociation/ we will then follow up with a Bullants Blog.
This Winter season is the club’s biggest yet. It has been a mammoth task for the committee to sort our 270 players into 29 teams and source coaches and umpires for them all! Whilst we are excited that the season commences next weekend, we still have teams without a Manager, who will not be taking the court unless someone steps forward to be the team Manager. Please let us know ASAP if you can be the Manager for any of the following teams:
Grading commences Saturday 29 April. Attached is the draw. Players should arrive 30min before their first game to warm up. Please meet your coach at the Bullants banner set up at the bottom gate near the Touch Football field.
Uniforms have arrived. Please come and collect at the pavilion at training on Wednesday.
Training and Game Day requirements: players need to come to training and game day with: jewellery and watches removed, long hair tied back, nails cut short, a drink bottle.
Umpires & Coaches Courses
SCNA is holding 2 new courses on Wednesday 3 May and 10 May. The courses are especially geared towards volunteer parent or students coaches and parent umpires.
The Coaches course will cover the following:
How to teach a skill How to run a session How to get the best out of your team What you expect from your players What you expect from a captain Basic skills that are mandatory in age groups Tips and tricks
Each coach will have access to the Netball Australia Foundation Coaches course and be given an SCNA Coach’s shirt.
The Umpire’s course will cover the following
Pre-game responsibilitiesBasic techniques for umpires Basics of areas of control, off-side Hand signals Awarding sanctions Overview of rules Controlling the game
Each umpire will receive an umpires manual, Netball Australia Foundation Umpire Course, an SCNA Umpire shirt and a whistle.
The umpires course is not for high school students. SCNA will be running a separate course for them.
Please remember NO DOGS are permitted at the courts.
Parking: King Street is the best place to park – the SCNA parking area is for SCNA officials only.
Wet weathergame updates – we will put out a post if games are cancelled due to wet weather, but feel free to also follow the SCNA Facebook page https://www.facebook.com/southcanberranetballassociation/ Bullants will also put a post out.
Respect. Please let our Umpires umpire, our Coaches coach and our Players play. Applaud good performance and efforts by all players. Congratulate both teams on their performance regardless of the game’s outcome. Remember Bullants and SCNA are run by volunteers. Our committees, coaches, managers and umpires give up their time and resources and deserve your support. Please familiarise yourself with the Netball Australia Code of Behaviour: https://act.netball.com.au/sites/act/files/2020-07/NetballAustraliaNationalCodesofBehaviour.pdf
We look forward to seeing everyone at Training again this Wednesday and also on court on Saturday. We wish every player a fun season as they develop their netball skills and we wish every team, coach, manager and supporters success throughout the season.
Wishing everyone a happy easter and school holidays. We appreciate your patience and flexibility as we settled teams across all levels. This year we will have 29 teams taking the court – all teams have amazing coaches to help guide our players during the winter netball season.
Team Managers: We have a number of teams who are currently without team managers. Teams cannot play without a Manager. This is a simple, but necessary, role that enables all our coaches to focus their efforts on our players. Please email if you are able to take on the role for one of the following teams: Potawatomie, Menominee, Meskwaki, Yamasee, Mingo, Cherokee, Comanche, Hopi, Cheyenne, Kamia, Kiowa, Mohawks, Navajo, Braves, Arikara, Iroquis, Barona, Cree, Sekani.
Key dates
There will be no training during the school holidays with the next training session to be held on Wednesday, 26 April. This will be our last training before Saturday netball begins on 29 April. Key dates for the season are outlined below.
Saturday, 29 April
Net Set Go competition commences
Saturday, 29 April
SCNA grading commences (first of three weeks)
Saturday, 20 May
Competition (non-Net Set Go) commences
Saturday, 10 June
Competition concludes – winter break
Saturday, 22 July
Competition recommences
Saturday, 26 August
Competition concludes
Saturday, 2 September – Saturday, 16 September
Finals for eligible teams (non-Net Set Go teams)
Saturday game timings will be confirmed in the coming weeks.
Other things to note:
Uniforms which have been ordered are expected to arrive over the Easter break. We will distribute the uniforms as soon as possible – hopefully first training back on 26 April.
Please do not park in the SCNA car park for pick up, drop off or during trainings or competition days. We have a number of officials and coaches who require easy access and we would not want to limit their ability to support our players.
Finally – what is in a name?
A lot of people ask about our unique team names – Potawatami, Iroquois and Kiowa to name a few. Well it turns out that many, many years ago importance was placed on the need for separate and easily identifiable names – with the decision made to name the teams after American Indian tribes. There are many generations of Bullants players who have played within teams with these names and come to love the history of moving up through the teams. The Bullants Committee understands that it is time to review the suitability of these names and we are currently considering options including culturally appropriate alternatives. We will keep our community updated as this work proceeds. In the meantime we hope that your family enjoys the great spirit that our players bring to the court.
Any questions or to nominate as Team Manager, please email bullantsnetball@gmail.com
We hope everyone enjoyed being back on the courts last week and a very warm welcome to our new club members.
For tomorrow and every Wednesday training and game day thereafter, please remember:
All jewellery removed, long hair tied back, nails cut short, bring a drink bottle
Dogs are not welcome at the courts. This is an ACT Government rule, not Bullants/SCNA rule
Best place to park is at the King Street entrance
Put your name in your jumper…. especially if you have a red Bullants jumper……they all look the same and it is difficult to reunite with the proper owner when there are 7 identical jumpers!
Uniform Shop – will be open again tomorrow 5.30-6.30pm
Congratulations to our Bullants players who represented SCNA at the first representative carnival last Sunday.
