Yr 2, 3 & 4 Training Tonight cancelled

Unfortunately we have just learnt the lights are still not repaired and we again need to cancel training for year 2, year 3 and year 4 teams.  Please look out for advice from your coaches, as there may be an opportunity to train this Saturday given there are no games.

All other training timeslots will train tonight as per the normal schedule.

Netball ACT is running a School Holiday Clinic in July

Hi Bullants community,

Sharing these details in case you are interested:

Netball ACT’s School Holiday Clinics are back with lot’s of fun and learning.

The clinic will run from Tuesday 11th through till Thursday 13th of July.

All three days will start at 9:00am and finish at 12:30pm at the Solarhub ACT Netball ACT Centre, 435 Northbourne Avenue Lyneham ACT 2602 (indoor).

Our clinics are all about having fun and being active. They cater to all levels of netball experience and fitness with a focus on enjoyment and the social benefits of netball. We ask that all participants bring a water bottle, morning team and a can do attitude and lots of energy! Some fresh fruit provided by Woolworths will also be available on all three days.

If you have any questions, please contact Emma Brear – Program Coordinator emma.brear@netballact.com.au

If you are purchasing a two day ticket, please email Emma which days you would like to attend.

Training changes tomorrow

Half of the floodlights at the SCNA courts are not working, leaving only half the number of courts suitable for training. The fault detection and repair is now with the ACT Government and we are not sure how quickly this will be rectified.

Unfortunately the committee has had to make a difficult decision and cancel tomorrow’s training for year 2, year 3 and year 4 teams.  At all other training time slots, there should be enough courts for two teams to share a court that has working lights. We are disappointed not to get everyone on court before Saturday, but the safety of players is our priority.

Upcoming netball dates; Carpark use at Training

The next few weeks play havoc with our netball routine. Here is when we play:

Saturday 12 June – no netball, long weekend

Saturday 17 June – netball as normal, Round 4

Saturday 24 June- no netball, ACT Jnr Champs

Saturday 1 July – no netball, school holidays & ACT Champs

Saturday 8 July – no netball, school holidays

Saturday 15 July – no netball, school holidays

Saturday 22 July – games resume, Round 5

Training:

Wednesday night training continues during the school term. No training throughout the school holidays i.e. 5 & 12 July. Look out for more details of our ’round robin’ event where we will keep our game skills going.

Please do not access car park on Wednesday Training: We have several parents using the SCNA carpark inside the courts to pick up and drop off their players at training. This is particularly dangerous given the limited lighting and small unpredictable children. For safety we ask that the carpark is accessed by coaches and SCNA Executive only. Parents, please park your car and WALK to the courts to drop off/pick up your child. The best parking is in King Street.

Enjoy your long weekend!

Bullants Netball

Beautiful morning at Deakin netball courts this morning. Thank you to our early shift of volunteers who are cooking up a storm at the BBQ!!

Bullants Netball – Saturday BBQ and Game Times

Looking forward to a great day of netball tomorrow. Some reminders:

BBQ

Bullants is running the BBQ tomorrow. This is a major fundraiser for the club that helps to keep our registration costs to a minimum. If you haven’t signed up yet, there are slots available in the following sessions:
11.00-11.30 (Apache and Sioux)
12.00-12.30 (Braves and Kamia)
12.30-1.00 (Cheyenne and Navajo)
1.30-2.30 (Pack up allocated to all seniors, noting it probably won’t take the whole hour.)
You don’t need to be associated with these teams to sign up to help out in these timeslots. Remember, we have a lot of people who volunteer their time every week to get our players on court, so please make a contribution of your time to this once-in-a-season activity.

Game Times

There have been some final changes made to the divisions in almost all competitions. You should check the time for your games, even if the changes haven’t affected your team, as SCNA has had to juggle timeslots to ensure they can fit as many games as possible on the hard courts.

Junior Umpires

SCNA has commenced its junior umpire program, with the trainee umpires allocated to Go and Juniors games. They are learning, so remember to be patient as they build their skills and confidence. There is a feedback system in place to help these young umpires improve, so avoid on-court commentary as it can be overwhelming for beginner umpires.

Netball on this weekend; Hoody’s have arrived

Long weekend netball: Just a reminder that netball is on this long weekend. If you are not available to play, please be sure to let your coach know.

Hoody Delivery: If you had a Hoody on backorder, please come and get it from the pavilion at training tomorrow.

2023 Winter Competition Draw; New Game Scoresheets; Best & Fairest Nominations each week

2023 Winter Draws: Grading is complete and the teams have now been allocated to grades to play in for the season. Competition Draws are available here: https://www.playhq.com/netball-australia/org/south-canberra-netball-association/8231a9c0 Please check carefully as new divisions have been created this year to make divisions more even.

New Game Scoresheets: Player positions, shooters attempts and goals & list fill-in players – (applicable for Juniors div 1, inters/ cadets and seniors).

Upfront, please note: SCNA has made it clear that whilst the new scoresheet process described below may initially seem overwhelming, please don’t be put off from being the scorer. The priority is to simply score the game. It is less imporant that the stats are recorded accurately – most importantly, please don’t let this new process limit your willingness to volunteer for this critical task!

This season SCNA will be using advanced score sheets (different from grading and different from score sheets used last year). Scorers with the assistance of coaches, will now be required to add player positions in the columns provided on the scoresheets, list any fill-ins and their positions played, and to track shooters attempts and goals.

We understand the new scoresheet may be daunting for some, however, but rest assured we don’t expect everything to be perfect, but a good attempt to be made. At the start of the game and during each quarter scorers should fill in the position of each player on the court. During each quarter the goals and attempts box for that quarter should be filled out. This means whenever a player attempts a shot and misses marking down a dot (•) in that player’s box. When they score successfully a line ( | ) should be recorded instead. An attempt at goal that is made but is brought back as the result of an obstruction or contact call, where the player may shoot again, does not need to be recorded as a missed attempt. As usual, when a goal is scored, the next number on the score tracker should be struck through. At the end of each game, the scores should be totalled, a winner recorded and both scorers should sign the score sheet.

Best & Fairest Nominations: In addition to the new scoring requirements, SCNA is also introducing a Best and Fairest award to be awarded in each division as voted by coaches (for juniors div 1, inters and cadets) and umpires (for seniors) with voting slips attached to the scoreboard.

For juniors div 1, inters and cadets both coaches will have the opportunity to vote for up to 2 players from the opposing team only. Two voting slips will be attached to the scoreboard and it is required that player names and game details are clearly written. These can be brought back to the office either with the scoreboard or delivered by the team coach. At the end of the season, these votes will be aggregated and the award presented to the winner from each division. Coaches are encouraged to interact and support one another in ensuring votes are placed each week.

For seniors, given many teams do not have coaches, we will be requiring umpires to cast B&F votes. One voting slip will be attached to the scoreboard and both umpires can collectively chose one player from each team to award votes to. If there is only one umpire, that umpire can chose two players, one from each team. Coaches or the captain of seniors teams should assist umpires in helping them identify the names of their selected players to receive votes – note this is also why it is important for player positions to be filled out.

Votes should be awarded to players who not only perform well on the court, but who are respectful and supportive of the umpires, their teammates and the opposition.

While the completion of the full score sheet and voting is not mandatory it is heavily encouraged. SCNA know this is a lot to ask of our parents, scorers, coaches and umpires, but we hope that we can use the information collected as a development tool for players and coaches, and for SCNA to use when it comes to representative team selections and trials. This ties in with SCNA’s commitment to be the best we can be and empower our players to do the same.

An additional instruction guide will be attached to all scoreboards this week.

We wish our Bullants Community a wonderful season full of fun, surrounded by good sportspeople on and off the court, skills that improve and hopefully some match success along the way. Remember any injuries are to be reported to the office for insurance purposes and of course, please let us know if you have any questions or concerns.

Bullants Netball – Grading Round 3

Tomorrow is the last week of grading for our Junior, Intermediate, Cadet and Senior teams. There have been a number of changes, with teams moving divisions to test them at higher levels, so look closely at the table below for when your team is playing. The cool weather is here, so make sure to arrive 30 minutes before your first game for a good warm up!!!

Remember, if you want to keep warm then wear BLACK leg-ins and long-sleeve t-shirt under your dress or shorts/top.

A reminder to supporters…… you should stand on the opposite side of the court to the team bench. Only coaches and managers should be on the team bench. Obviously, if any of our youngest players need particular support you should feel free to help with that.

Let’s go Bullants!!!

New Grading Draw

Congratulations to the Bullants community for a great start to the season last Saturday. The rain mostly held off and there were many, many smiling faces happy to be back on court again or taking the court for the very first time.

SCNA has reviewed the results from Week 1 of Grading and below is the new draw for Week 2.

Supporters, please remember you should be positioned on the sideline opposite the team benches/coaches/scorer.
