Bullants Holiday Training and Uniforms

Hi Bullants Families.

Hope you’re all keeping fit and well during these holidays.

Holiday Training

Given the compressed season this year, we think it useful for teams to train during the holidays if coaches and players are available. We can confirm that the following teams will train this week:

5pm – Chinook, Meskwaki, Iroquois, Potawatomie, Hopi

6pm – Araphao, Chickasaws, Apache, Comanche, Zuni

7pm – Dakota, Navajo, Braves, Mohawks, Nike, Chiefs, Cree, Shawnee

Some teams will be combined to ensure there are enough players to run drills etc. If your team is not listed but you want to attend, please email us at bullantsnetball@gmail.com to check we can accommodate you.

Senior teams – please note you will be training in an earlier time slot during the holidays.

Uniforms

Two things about uniforms….

  1. Please email and pay for your uniform orders in the next couple of days if you haven’t done so yet. We may need to place a bulk order and will be doing that soon.
  2. If you have second hand uniform that you can donate to the club please email us. We have lots of new players in the club this year, and it would be great to have some second hand uniforms to sell.

Looking forward to seeing you all soon

Your Committee

Bullants Uniforms Update

Hi Bullants Families,

As you would have been notified by your coaches, the webstore which we use for uniform orders is currently down. Accordingly we will take uniform orders manually for the time being using our email address bullantsnetball@gmail.com. Please specify the number of items you want to order with associated sizes, as well as the name of the player these are ordered for.

Below is a list of the items and their prices:

ItemSize OptionsPrice
Club Dress4, 6, 8, 10, 12, 14, 16, 18, 20, 22, 24, 26, 28$75
Socks13-3, 2-8, 8-11, 11-14$9
Hoodie4, 6 ,8, 12, 14, 16/XS, S, M$55

The dresses have an odd sizing, so we strongly recommend trying one on prior to ordering. If this has not already been done, this can be organized to happen on a Wednesday at training. Again, contact us by email to sort that out.

To confirm your order, transfer the money for the total order value to Bullant’s commonwealth bank account. Please put the name of the player in the description of the transfer so we know which order it relates to. Our account details are below:

BSB: 062905

Account Number:00902761

Account Name: Bullants Netball Club

We have limited stock on hand and the lead time for orders with our supplier is approximately 5 weeks. We would appreciate you emailing your order ASAP so that we can place a bulk order within the next week if necessary.

There is a possibility that orders have been placed through the webstore that we are unable to view. If you believe this may be the case for you, please email us so we can investigate further.

Thank you for your patience as we try to sort this out.

Bullants Netball Committee.

Training update

There are no changes to the format for training tomorrow night – same again as last week.

Wednesday update

Thank you for your support and patience for our first Covid-safe training last week. It was great for us all to get back on court!

For this week we have had a few restrictions lifted. Teams can train as normal, including some game play as desired. But we can’t have more than 2 teams on a court and still need to be careful with sharing, having clean hands, being able to contact trace, no crowding and cleaning equipment. We also need to keep the numbers down, so still no spectators inside the courts for now.

Training times will be the same as last week, and you will train on the same court.

It was quite crowded at the change over from 5.40 to 6. We will reconfigure how we do it this week. But a reminder for drivers not to park on the verge near the gate, for pick up parents to line up on the court side of the gate and players waiting to come in wait on the other side.

If you need to pick up a uniform you have ordered you will be able to do so at the start of your training session by going direct to the veranda then out, or on to training if a player.

There is a technical Glitch with the uniform order site – we trying to sort this out and will post a notice when it starts to work again. We have stock on hand so it should be fine for the start of the season.

We will be starting competition netball on 25 July. We do not have times as yet as SCNA are still working on the draw.

See you on Wednesday.

Wednesday here we come

We have finalised the arrangements for training to start on Wednesday. The return to netball plan has been endorsed by SCNA, our equipment has been sorted, coaches have been provided with our covid-safe guidelines and players notified.

It is likely to be busy near the entrance to the courts on Makin Place. Please drive carefully and follow the guidance of our exit/entry wardens. At the end of the 5pm and 6pm time slot we will hold the smaller players at the gate until they are collected by a responsible person. Under the current guidance we cannot have spectators inside the fence – it would put us over the numbers limit.

We are still looking for a coach (or coach pair) for a netsetgo team. This is a great opportunity to support your community and/or work on your leaderships skills. It looks great on a uni application too!

We are still looking for managers for some teams:

Netsetgo: Potawatomie, Meskwaki, Chinook, Iroquois.

Juniors go: Sioux, Arikara.

Juniors: Comanche, Mohicans.

Inters: Cheyenne, Braves, Kiowa, Mohawks, Navajo.

Seniors: Nike, Chiefs, Cree.

Please send an email if you are able to take on this role, or talk to your coach or a member of the committee who can clarify what is involved.

Once again, we will distribute uniforms from 23 June, and we will update you as/when restrictions get eased further.

We are all looking forward to getting back onto court for netball this year. If you have questions and/or would like to get involved please email: bullantsnetball@gemail.com.

Your Bullants Commitee

Bullants return to training

Dear Bullants Community,

We are returning to training this week. Below is the covid-safe guidance for players and parents. We will be emailing specific guidance to coaches.

We are still looking for help to manage the entry and exit points at the courts – please email bullantsnetball@gmail.com if you can help. We need a few helpers for each session. The club is run by volunteers and there is extra administration required to implement these mandatory regulations.

Uniform orders have arrived, but they will not be distributed this week. Given the change to our training routine we plan to distribute uniforms at a later time. Orders can still be made via the webstore.

Arrival & Departure

Entry and exit to the SCNA courts will only be via the Makin Place gates. The King Street carpark and the small gate on Makin Place will remain locked with no accessibility.  The carpark gate will be split into an entry and exit point using high visibility cones to ensure participants flow into the facility through the hand sanitiser stations.

The Bullants Committee and volunteers will control the entry/exit points ensuring all participants follow correct protocol i.e. correct entry/exit, use of hand sanitiser, know which court to go to and players go directly there etc.  The SCNA carpark will not be used.

Parents are to remain outside the court fence unless they are the entry/exit gate supervisors or team manager. This is due to the social distancing requirements.

Training

All training will be staggered by 20 minutes to allow for teams to depart and arrive without interaction between other teams and to allow for equipment cleaning as necessary.

All participants are required to arrive no earlier than 10 minutes prior to their training session and depart the venue no later than 10 minutes at the end of the training session. Warmups are to be kept to a minimum and there is to be no cool downs.

No contact training will occur at this stage, the focus will be on fitness and skills.

Training times for each team (unless otherwise specified) are:

5.00 until 5.40pm – Net Set Go (Year 2 and 3) and Juniors Go (Year 4).

6.00 until 6.40pm – Juniors (Year 5 and 6)

7.00 until 7.40pm – Intermediates (Years 7, 8 and 9)

8.00 until 8.45pm – Seniors

Teams will be allocated a single, consistent court to train on each week. Only one team will be allowed on each court for training purposes.

Social distancing should always be practised. Participants should be aware that there is no sharing of towels, water bottles, whistles etc. All personal equipment is to be labelled by all participants. Any personal equipment left at SCNA will be immediately thrown out. Participants are to bring one bottle to cover the training session.

Equipment

Please do not bring along any personal netball equipment to netball training such as netballs or bibs.

Each team will be allocated a clearly labelled kit bag. This kit bag is for their team only. There is to be no sharing or touching of equipment between teams.  Inside these kit bags will be all equipment necessary for training. These kit bags will be kept in the possession of each coach and brought along to each training session. Bullants will provide each team with a pack of antibacterial wipes.

Cleanliness

A hand sanitiser will be positioned at the Makin Place entrance. This hand sanitiser will be prominently marked with signage and all participants will be required to use it when they enter and exit. There will also be hand sanitiser pump packs located on a table outside the SCNA pavilion.

There is to be no spitting or nasal secretions from participants.

There will be no access to any communal facilities including toilets, showers, change rooms, umpire room, canteen or SCNA office. This is an ACT Government stipulation. These facilities will be roped off and appropriate signage erected to notify and remind participants.

Please ensure all netballers have been to the bathroom immediately before attending training.

Health

Any unwell participants are not to attend or leave immediately if they begin to feel unwell. An unwell participant is required to inform the coach.

Coaches/managers are to keep a record of each participants that is in attendance for all training sessions including any participant absences. The need for this is should there be an outbreak all participants will be advised and contact tracing can occur. Attendance records will be provided to the Bullants committee each week and stored in case they are needed for tracing purposes.

If someone (participant or coach) tests positive for COVID-19, ACT Health will perform contact tracing to determine where the infected person has been and who they have been in contact with.

The individual must not attend any training until they have been cleared by a health authority.  Any person who has been in close contact with the individual may be asked not to attend training for a period or until a COVID-19 test comes back negative.

All Bullants club participants including coaches, managers, participants and volunteers will assist ACT Health in contact tracing should it be required.

Updates

Bullants will update information vis the Bullants blog (https://bullantsnetball.wordpress.com/) as it changes in response to ACT Government and Netball ACT guidance.

Thank-you for your support during this time.

Bullants Committee

Netball update

Dear Bullants Community,

Your committee are busy in the background preparing for the return of netball. There was a SCNA Committee meeting on 3 June that set out what was needed for clubs to commence training and what a competition might look like. The Bullants Committee met this weekend to plan our next steps.

The first step is for Bullants to have an SCNA endorsed “return to netball plan” for our club. This plan will set out how we will operate in a covid-safe way. Netball will be back but we will need to operate differently. We will need everyone in our community to understand the constraints/protocols and play their role to support the return of netball.

Once we have an SCNA approved plan, hopefully this week, we will update you all on what it means for players, parents, coaches and managers.

We are aiming for a return to training on 17 June, conditional on us being able to do all the necessary steps before then. This involves finalising our planning, sourcing additional volunteers (see below), purchasing new equipment, set up new training arrangements and providing clear guidance to our community.

We will send out the final team lists for netsetgo ASAP as these were not sent prior to our shut down. We will also organise a zoom session for coaches and managers to provide detailed guidance on the new arrangements.

There are some items we need your help with – they do not require netball experience. However, without additional volunteers we will not be able to manage the new requirements on us as a club.

  • We will need to shift training times to accomodate all our teams within the social distancing requirements. We are planning for training to start at:
    • 5pm for netsetgo (year 2/3) and juniors go (year4)
    • 6pm for juniors
    • 7pm for inters
    • 8pm for seniors.
    • We may have some flexibility on these times, so please email us if it is a major problem.
  • We will need 3 volunteers for each training session to help manage the entry and exit points into the courts. Please email if you are able to help – you will be provided with clear instructions and equipment and will need to arrive 10 minutes before training starts and be able to leave 10 minutes after the session ends.
  • We will need a manager for each team to attend training and help the coaches with various duties such as recording attendance, policing social distancing amongst the team, and cleaning equipment at the end of the session. We still require managers for the following teams:
    • Netsetgo: Potawatomie, Meskwaki, Chinook, Iroquois.
    • Juniors go: Sioux, Apache, Arikara.
    • Juniors: Comanche, Mohicans.
    • Inters: Cheyenne, Braves, Kiowa, Mohawks, Navajo.
    • Seniors: Nike, Chiefs, Cree, Dakota.
    • Please send an email if you are able to take on this role.

We do not yet have confirmation of when competition netball will start, but we are hopeful that we will be able to play from the start of next term (ie from 25 July) – once again subject to ACT government decisions. SCNA is also looking to an offering for term 4.

At this stage both ACT Netball and SCNA have indicated they will not be providing refunds for this season as it looks like a competition will be possible. Bullants netball only takes a small portion of the registration fee (less than $15) to provide for umpires/balls/bibs. The majority of the fee goes to insurance and maintenance of facilities – so to ACT Netball and SCNA.

We will provide an update through this blog as soon as we have more information.

If you have questions, please send them to the usual email: bullantsnetball@gmail.com.au.

Update

Dear Bullants Family,

We are still waiting for guidance from SCNA and Netball ACT on when our competition will commence and further guidance on Covid-safe training.

We hope this will be available within weeks. So, we are not far off getting back onto the court – at least to train in some form!

Heather has provided her favourite rule below and in a separate blog a fun fitness activity to do.
 Rule 9.5.2 – Over a third:
The ball must be caught or touched by a player in each third of the court.
The player who catches or touches the ball must:
a) be standing wholly in the third concerned when the ball is caught or touched or
b) after catching or touching the ball in the air, land either with the first foot or both feet wholly in the third concerned.
Penalty: free pass taken by the transverse line where the ball first entered the third incorrectly.
The most common time that rule is broken is when there is a throw-in from the back line and the team mates of the player throwing in, can’t get free. The player throwing in then tries to throw it to another player standing in the centre third.
Remember – if the ball passes over two transverse lines – it is going to be over a third.
It is very important to have some ‘set plays’ for this back line throw in so that this penalty doesn’t occur.
Bullants Committee

Bullants Netball

Hi Bullants families.

Your committee continues to monitor the situation and will provide information as it comes to hand. Remember to keep up your fitness and work on your skills.

Resources/Links

Netball Australia has teamed with NetFit to provide on-line clinics for players. The link for that is here.  The clinics are full-day sessions, but if you want just an individual exercise/skills session then you can access those via the facebook page here. We also recommend that players warm up using the knee program designed by Netball Australia to prevent knee injury here. And SCNA have links to some activities also here.

Netball Knowledge

Here is another rule for you to consider – this is on of Meghan’s bugbear…. players being called for replay. So what are you allowed to do?

Rule 9.4.1 covers the requirements for playing the ball.

To gain procession a player may: catch the ball with one or both hands; roll the ball to oneself; catch the ball if it rebounds from the goalpost.

After releasing the ball, a player may not replay the ball until it has been touched by another player or it rebounds from the goalpost.

But, without having possession of a ball a player may do quite a bit with it – this is the interesting part.

Before you have possession you can bat or bounce the ball to another player but can’t bat it deliberately at another player (that would be unsportsmanlike!).

You can tip the ball in an uncontrolled manner once or more than once, then either catch the ball or bat or bounce it to another players.

You can bat the ball once before either catching the ball or batting practice bouncing the ball to another player.

And you can bounce the ball once before either catching the ball or batting or bouncing it to another player.

So if you don’t have possession or control of the ball – you can keep trying to get hold of the ball without worrying about being called for replay.

There are a few things you can’t do. For example, you can’t roll the ball to another player. You also can’t catch or throw the ball if you are on the ground.

If you would like to suggest some other tips for our update or have questions please send us an email at bullantsnetball@gmail.com.

We hope everyone is staying safe and well.
