Finals Fitness is ON tonight

We look forward to seeing those inters/cadets/seniors who are interested in the additional fitness sessions at 6.30pm-7.30pm tonight at the Deakin courts.

Please be respectful that Tuesdays is Woden Blues regular training session and they are kindly letting us access and share the courts.

Thanks

Finals Fitness Update – Inters/Cadets/Seniors

We have had a great response to the EOI for Finals Fitness! For those Inters/Cadets/Seniors players who are interested, we are hoping to start tonight at 6.30pm. We are still waiting on confirmation of court avaialability at Deakin and will let you know as soon as we hear. Please look out for another email update today.

Finals fitness EOI and BBQ duty volunteers needed

2024 Finals Fitness EOI – Inters/Cadets/Seniors

To support our weekly training and overall game day fitness/conditioning, we are considering running specialised fitness sessions for our inters/cadets/seniors. These sessions will be run by a qualified fitness professional with experience at state-level netball.

Initially, we are looking at trialling the sessions over the next few weeks in the lead into finals. Should the sessions be successful, we would look to extend the offering in 2025.

There is no cost to attend. If we can’t access the SCNA courts, we intend to secure a location nearby.

The trial period will be run on Tuesday evenings between 6.30-7.30pm. Apologies if you or your child are interested in participating, but unavailable. We would still like to hear from you to determine when is the best time to schedule these sessions next year for maximum participation.

Please fill in the form here before midday Sunday so that we can plan appropriately.

BBQ Duty

We are on BBQ duty next weekend, the 24th of August. Please click here to sign up, remembering that the expectation is that we get a few volunteers from every team.

Volunteer call-out

We’re still in need of some volunteers for tomorrow, particularly court set-up first thing in the morning, a few canteen spots throughout the day, and court pack-up. Please register here!

We’ve also found out that the clock is not functioning correctly! SCNA are on it, and will ensure that the quarters remain the right length for each timeslot, but this may not be reflected on the clock itself and the time shown may not be the same as the time that is left.

Welcome to August

We’re on the home stretch of the season now, and approaching finals in a few weeks time! For a lot of divisions you will start to see split rounds over the next few weeks, which will be run as half games. Your coach/manager will let you know if/when this affects you, but please keep your eye out for these!

Importantly, we are once again on canteen duty and court support this weekend. Please sign up here, remembering that we need volunteers from every team!

It was wonderful to be back at the courts last Saturday and see the joy on the faces of everyone involved in playing, coaching and umpiring. We are very fortunate to have a community of supporters that enables us to put 30+ teams on court every weekend. This includes our fabulous team of coaches and umpires who invest their team each and every week.

Unforunately, as an association, we are seeing an increase in poor behaviour – aggressive play on court and criticism of players, coaches and umpires (many of who are young and developing). SCNA has made it clear behaviour that goes against the Code of Behaviour won’t be tolerated. While we know many of us are competitive, we ask all to participate and support the game in a positive way and with respect for everyone involved. We are hoping that netball can remain a fun and safe space for everyone.

We’ve also been asked to pass on a few messages to the wider Bullants community:

Following up on the wonderful success of our very first Pride Round just before the holidays, Netball ACT is currently looking to provide an online LGBTQIA+ education session, which will be run by Pride in Sport in September. This is open to all members of the netball community but recommended for those 16+, or for those under 16 with the company of a guardian. If you’re interested, please click the link here to complete an expression of interest.

We’ve recently been asked to share a link to some research from Deakin University to reduce gender inequality in sport and active recreation participation. They are conducting an online survey on barriers and strategies to support the participation of women and girls in sport and active recreation during menstruation. Click here if you’d like to participate, it only takes 10 minutes!

Netball returns

We hope you’re as excited as we are to get back to netball this week! We will be back to training this Wednesday the 24th and games this Saturday the 27th! There are no more breaks in the season, so we’ll now play weekly until the end of August, and then hit finals in September!

For our morning crew on the 27th of July, we’re on canteen duty between 9-11am. We’d need some volunteers from our NetSetGo and Junior parents to sign up here.

We look forward to seeing you all on Wednesday!

Intraclub Match Play – Tomorrow!

A reminder that tomorrow night we are holding intraclub match play to get us through the long break until we’re back to Saturday netball at the end of July.

For most of you, this means arriving at your usual time, and heading straight to warm up with your coaches. There are a few teams that are playing at different times, your coach should have been in contact with you already if this will affect you!

There is NO need for uniforms! We would much rather you come warm and rugged up, than in your uniform. All teams will play with overhead bibs, so no need to worry about having your shirt or dress on.

We’re still looking for a handful of umpires, so if you’re keen to have a go, please let us know ASAP at bullantsnetball@gmail.com.

Otherwise, we look forward to seeing you all there and we hope for a really fun night!

Pride round tomorrow!

A reminder to our Bullants family that tomorrow is pride round at SCNA. We’d love to see you all wearing your rainbow finest!

If you haven’t already sorted your accessories, come and see us at the back of the courts where we will have lots available!

Discrimination in sport is a huge problem, with up to 80% of athletes experiencing or witnessing some form of homophobia, and 75% of young gay women choosing to stay in the closet while playing sport. By holding a pride round, Bullants and SCNA hope to send a clear message that there is no place for homophobia and transphobia in netball, and that all members of the LGBTQIA+ community are safe and welcome at our club.

We can’t wait to see you there!

Pride Round!

As you have hopefully already seen, there is no netball this weekend due to the King’s Birthday long weekend.

Instead, our next Saturday game is the 15th of June, which doubles as SCNA’s inaugural Pride Round.

We’d love to see all of our Bullants teams turn out in support of the day, in netball-appropriate ways! This might include some ribbon, scrunchies, or socks, ensuring whatever you choose is netball-appropriate!

Speaking of netball-appropriate, we want to remind you that any extra layers worn should be in black, white or red. If you are wearing a hoodie any drawstrings must be tucked in, and SCNA have requested that only tight pants should be worn.

Beanies: If you ordered a beanie and you haven’t already picked it up, please come collect them at training on the 12th between 6-7:30pm. If we haven’t heard from you by that date and it has not been collected, we will open them up for sale after this time so please make sure you contact us if you can’t make training to collect!

Enjoy your long weekend!

BULLANTS TRAINING CANCELLED

The courts are wet and radar shows more rain on the way. Given there are no games this weekend we are cancelling training tonight. Enjoy the long weekend and we’ll see you all next Wednesday.
