2018 Develop a Diamond

2018 Develop a Diamond Nominations Open

Nominations for the 2018 Develop a Diamond Program are now open. Athletes aged 14-16years – born in 2004, 2003 and 2002 are encouraged to nominate and trial for the Develop a Diamond Program.

The primary objective of the Develop a Diamond Academy (DADA) is to provide athletes with exposure to a high performance environment by providing an individual based program for athletes who show the potential to progress through the Netball ACT athlete pathway in future performance cycles. DADA is the entry program for athletes into the Netball ACT Academy and Representative structures and is delivered in accordance with the Netball Australia Develop a Diamond curriculum.

In accordance with the Netball ACT Athlete Selection Policy the DADA selection trials will be held on the following dates:

  • Monday 12 February 2018 for athletes 14 years old (born in 2004)
  • Thursday 15 February 2018 for athletes 15 and 16 years old (born in 2003 and 2002)
  • A third trial date is to be confirmed pending the number of athlete nominations received

Note: athletes who are eligible to trial for the DADA program but are also interested in trialling for the 2018 NACTA Developing Talented Athlete and Emerging Talented Athlete programs (May 2018). Netball ACT recommends athletes to trial for the DADA program in the first instance.

Nominations close 5pm Friday 9 February 2018

PLEASE NOTE LATE NOMINATIONS WILL NOT BE ACCEPTED.

2018 DADA Structure

After a review of the delivery, structure and key objectives of the current DADA program Netball ACT has recognised the need to change the format in which this program has previously operated. Through changing the structure and duration of the DADA program athletes will have greater exposure to a high performance environment across a calendar year with increased exposure to competition and match play to assist with the transfer of learnings from their training environment.

In 2018 the DADA program will run in a camp based structure rather than a weekly training environment. The program will run from February to November comprising of 6 camps, specialist sessions for each court area and 2 match play/games weekends.

Keep those Registrations coming

It is so great to see so many registrations coming in since we opened them on Tuesday.  The earlier we can get everyone in the system the better is it for our VOLUNTEERS to start sorting the season out.  So keep them coming!!

ALL THE REGISTRATION AND COMPETITION DETAILS are on the WINTER COMPETITION page [Link].

Today marks the end of PIERCING season.  It is 6 weeks until the start of competition so please be mindful of this if considering a piercing.  Players will not be able to take the court with piercings in and they cannot tape them.  This is mandated by the Official Rules of Netball. [Link], see Section 5 – Match Personnel.

Looking forward to seeing everyone back at the courts on Wednesday 14 Feb.  There will be uniform try on on Wednesday 7 Feb between 5-6 pm only.

Get excited – It’s time to register

The 2018 SCNA Winter Competition runs from 17 March to 15 September as set by the SCNA calendar. Online registrations open on Tuesday 30 January 2018.  Please complete your registration by TUESDAY 13 FEBRUARY 2018; after this date we cannot guarantee a position on a team.  If you are having problems with the registration please email us at bullantsnetball@gmail.com

ALL THE REGISTRATION AND COMPETITION DETAILS are on the WINTER COMPETITION page [Link].

We anticipate entering teams in all grades: NSG Set, Juniors, Inters and Seniors.  The number of teams we enter will be determined by the number of players that register and the number of volunteer coaches and umpires.  All players are required to attend training which is held on a Wednesday evening.

Got uniform that you want to give away or sell??

If you wish to donate it just bring it to the pavilion on Wednesday 7 February between 5-6 pm.  If you wish to sell it, create a sign with your uniform details including the size and price you want for it along with your contact details.  Then pin it up onto the noticeboard outside the Umpire room.

Bullants – New Committee for 2017/18

Hi everyone. I hope you are enjoying the twilight social comp at the moment.

I would like to introduce myself as the new Bullants Netball Club president. I feel very excited to take up this role and know I am joining a team of passionate netballers.

My first order of business is to express, on behalf of everyone at Bullants Netball, a big thank you to the people who spent time and energy to ensure Bullants was the premier non-school club at SCNA in 2016/17:

  • President – Teigan Single/ Karen Duck
  • Vice President and Public Officer – Karen Duck
  • Treasurer and Registrar- Ruth Mahon
  • Secretary – Heather Bond
  • Umpire Coordinator – Meaghan Quinn
  • Uniform Coordinator – Brittany Cattanach
  • Coach Coordinator – Meg Weston
  • Committee Members – Annette Brown, Nicola Duck, Emma Mahon

Special thanks needs to go to Ruth, Heather, Meaghan, Brittany and Emma who have put their hands up again for 2017/18. Your committee this year is:

  • President – Bernadette Mihaljevic
  • Treasurer & Registrar – Ruth Mahon
  • Secretary & Public Officer – Heather Bond
  • Uniform Coordinator – Emma Mahon
  • Umpire Coordinator – Julie Glover
  • Coach Coordinator – Heather Bond
  • Committee Members – Meaghan Quinn, Brittany Cattanach, Emma Mahon (event coordinator)

But now here comes the plea….….. we did not receive any nominations for the position of Vice President for the 2017/18 committee. The job of the Vice President is to attend (and chair in the absence of the President) the three committee meetings held each year and participate in the discussions/decisions relating to the management and direction of the club. This is not a particularly onerous job, but one that we need to have filled.

As an incorporated association in the ACT we are required to fill ALL executive positions on the committee. If we haven’t got a VP in place by the end of the twilight social comp we will have to begin discussions with the Office of Regulatory Services about the ongoing viability of Bullants Netball Club.  I’m sure none of us wants that, in particular the players from the 4 NSG SET/Junior Go teams, 4 Juniors teams, 5 Inters teams and 5 Seniors teams who played in the 2017 winter comp!  If you think you can spare about 6 hours in a year to attend meetings then please send us an email, your club needs you.

Twilight Social – Updated Draws

Last Wednesday was a fantastic start to the social season.  Thanks to the parents/carers who have taken up the challenge of team organisation.

Please come to the courts game ready. This means ALL JEWELRY REMOVED and NAILS TRIMMED.

Inters and Seniors need to check the draws as there has been changes to all divisions.  This means Dim Sims you have a bye this week.

See you at the courts.

Let the games begin – Twilight Social

This evening is Round one of the SCNA Twilight Social Comp and we have 14 teams playing across all divisions.  So here is a few housekeeping items to help us start the social season.

  1. Umpires – we need you!!! Please reply to Meaghan’s email if you haven’t already.  Parents this is a great place to start your umpiring career, so please get in touch if you are keen.
  2. Warm up is very important (even when it is warm).  Please turn up to the courts 30 minutes before the start of your game (5pm Juniors; 6pm Inters; 7pm or 8pm Seniors).  Today Bullants will have a table set up under the trees near the BBQ.  This will be a great place to start this week if you are unsure of who is on your team.
  3. Come GAME READY – this is hair tied back, ALL JEWELRY REMOVED (no sorry you can’t tape your piercings), fingernails trimmed and a drink bottle.
  4. Volunteers – We are all volunteers so please help share the load by offering to help in any way you can.  This might be player wrangling, umpiring, water bottle filling, scoring, setting up or taking down the pole wrappers and bins or helping out in the canteen or BBQ.
  5. Draws – are up on the SCNA website or you can download the MyNetball app from your favourite app store.  They are subject to change so check often.
  6. Weather – expect to play unless something is posted on the SCNA website/Facebook page (I will post to the Bullants site as well but it wont be until after SCNA is updated).
  7. Animals – we love them but please don’t bring them to the courts.
  8. Parking – The Pavilion carpark is reserved for disabled parking and Members of the SCNA Executive and Council.  Makin Place gets very congested with Touch Football also being played so best parking is in the King Street Carpark.

Ok, Let’s do this!! See you at the courts.

Twilight Social Teams

I have closed off all registrations and emails have been sent tonight to NSG, Juniors and Inters families with team details.  Seniors you are on my Tuesday To-Do list.

I am still looking for 2 or 3 Inters players (div 3 & 4 level).  Let me know if you are keen.

The draws are up on the SCNA website [Link]

Looking forward to seeing you back at the courts
