Twilight Season Starts Tomorrow

Tomorrow marks the start of the 2018 Bullants Twilight Social Netball season and it runs until Wednesday 5 December.

All registered players have been allocated to teams (via email). The draw is up on the SCNA website – please check to see what court you are on, and what time you are playing as some teams will swap time slots over the course of the season.

The Twilight season is a social competition so there is no training and the club does not allocate coaches to teams. That also means parents, carers, older siblings or friends are pitching in and helping to look after the kit bag and allocate players to positions. Please pitch in and help if for some reason there is a gap. And please be supportive of those who are doing the sorting.

It would be good for players to arrive in plenty of time tomorrow (at least 20 minutes before start time) to find your court, have a warm-up, and for the manager to have enough time to prepare the players to take the court.

While it is a social competition the usual rules of netball apply – e.g. short nails, no jewellery (including piercings).

Things can be a bit confusing this first week. Look out for a Bullants t-shirt to ask questions – members of the executive will be on site/umpiring/playing etc. If you need to collect a kit bag for the junior time slot (5.30) tomorrow please go to the storage cupboard near the ladies toilet before 5.10.

Thanks to those who have volunteered to umpire for the Twilight comp. By now you should have received an email with your team allocation. Please let Julie know at Bullantsnetball@gmail.com or 0432260912 if you are not available for your nominated slot. We are still looking for umpires for once off games or if you’d like a regular slot it is not too late to let us know!

We are looking forward to a really fun season.

AGM Update

Thank-you to all those who came to our end of season party. This year we celebrated the fun and success of our 19 teams in the 2018 winter season. That is quite a few players, coaches, umpires, managers, scorers and supporters to pull together week in week out.

A special thank-you to the tireless volunteers who put their time and energy into the smooth running of our club and who made the season such a success.

The full list of 2018 player awards can be found below. (If you were unable to collect your award email bullantsnetball@gmail.com)

And, importantly we marked the changing of the guard. Ruth Mahon, the backbone of the club over many years, is passing the netball to a new group of volunteers (yes it takes a group to replace Ruth) to take the club forward into the Twilight competition and beyond. We wish Ruth all the best for the future and thank her for her many years of dedication to our club, our players and our association. Her cheerfulness, kindness and wisdom have set the benchmark for us all to aspire to.

At the AGM we had a reshuffle of the committee to fill the Ruth shaped gap. This sees Bernadette Mihaljevic take on the crucial task of Treasurer and Registrar. Thank-you Bernadette for your excellent guidance as President during 2017-18 and for taking on this important task for the new season. Other positions were re-confirmed and Belinda James joined as a general committee member.

In summary, the 2018 AGM elected the following Bullants Executive Committee:

  • President:  Meghan Quinn
  • Vice-President:  Tanya Parkin
  • Treasurer and Registrar:  Bernadette Mihaljevic
  • Secretary and Public Officer: Heather Bond
  • Uniform Coordinator:  Emma Mahon
  • Umpire Coordinator:  Julie Glover
  • Coach Coordinator: Heather Bond
  • Committee Member: Belinda James

The club is in good financial health and we are thinking about opportunities to make the next seasons even better. So if you have thoughts or suggestions please email them in for consideration (bullantsnetball@gmail.com).

As with all volunteer clubs many hands make light work. All help is welcome. You do not need to have particular expertise and being a volunteer looks great on a CV (hint hint for those students out there). If you would like to find out more, please email us at bullantnetball@gmail.com, or ask one of the committee members at the courts.

Lastly, the Twilight competition gets under way on 17 October, with registrations closing tomorrow.

Meghan Quinn, President

It’s party time

Don’t forget our end of season celebration starts at 530pm at the Deakin Soccer Club.

See you all there 😀🎉🎈

Bullants End-of-Season Function, AGM and Fundraising BBQ

Dear Bullants Families

I hope you have all sent in your RSVPs for the end-of-season presentation night on Wednesday 19th September at the Deakin Soccer Club. Click here if you haven’t yet sent in your RSVP. Formalities will commence at 5.45, so please make sure you arrive in good time.

Immediately after the presentation night we will hold our Annual General Meeting. It would be great if some club members can stay to participate in the meeting. Indeed, we cannot hold the meeting unless we reach quorum of 5. The positions on the committee are all up for election. Some committee members have already indicated a willingness to continue to serve on the committee in some capacity, but we do have some vacancies. Below is a list of the roles on the committee with a summary of their responsibilities. Should you be interested in participating in the management of our club please call me or send an expression of interest to bullantsnetball@gmail.com.

President – chair committee meetings (3 per year), provide strategic direction, oversee and support the work of other committee members, co-authorise payments.
Vice President – chair meetings in President’s absence, contribute to strategic direction of club, act as first point of contact for disputes/concerns/complaints.
Secretary – prepare minutes of meetings, deal with external correspondence.
Treasurer – provide financial management of club, keep record of accounts, prepare and arrange audit of annual financial statement, lodge annual return to Office of Regulatory Services.
Public Officer – act as contact point for regulatory authorities (normally this role is taken on by the Secretary)
Registrar – manage registration process, allocate players to teams, maintain and keep updated the club information in mynetball.
Uniform Coordinator – receive orders and arrange for purchase and distribution of uniforms to players.
Coach Coordinator – Source coaches from SCNA community, allocate coaches to teams, brief coaches about club policies and expectations, coordinate access to coach development sessions.
Umpire Coordinator – Source umpires from Bullants and broader SCNA community, allocate umpires to games/teams, work with treasurer to make umpire payments.
Manager Coordinator – Seek volunteer managers for all junior and inters teams, brief managers on club policies and expectations.
Equipment Coordinator – Check team bags to ensure all necessary equipment available, work with treasurer to purchase missing items over the summer break, distribute bags to coaches.

On Saturday Bullants is running the bbq. This is a great opportunity for our club to raise some money which will be spent on our end-of-season presentation night, new equipment, umpire payments etc. At the moment only 6 of the 20 x 1 hour timeslots have been filled. If you have an hour to spare on Saturday please come to help. You can sign up here.

Whoot! We made it to finals

Congratulations to the  19 Bullants teams who competed across all divisions.  We hope you have had a great season.  Of the 15 teams eligible for finals, 7 will take the court this weekend in the semi finals.  Good luck players, we know you will represent Bullants well.  Thanks to Grace Underwood, SCNA umpire mentor who came down to chat to the girls on Wednesday night in preparation for the finals.  The girls asked some great questions to clarify rules.

A few reminders about the finals series:

GAME TIMES THIS WEEK: Juniors – 10:30 am, Inters 2 & 4 – 12pm, Inters 1 & 3 – 1 pm  Next week game times for all Inters will be 12 pm

There will be no draws, we will play until we have a result.  The players and coaches were briefed on this on Wednesday night.

Court time:  As per our player policy – Players of all divisions who make the finals rounds (semi, preliminary and grand finals) will be played at the discretion of the coach. All players are guaranteed two quarters (Divisions 3 & 4) and one quarter (Divisions 1 & 2) of court time per game.

Players: Come to the courts GAME READY with plenty of time to warm up.  You need to take the court at the 30 second mark to ensure the game starts on time.  Remember good sportsmanship is remembered and valued long after the game has ended.  Play with passion and integrity and you are a winner regardless of the result.  You’ve GOT THIS!!

Scorers: We need one scorer for each team to be on the scoring bench to work collaboratively with the other scorer.  Thanks to the awesome volunteers who take on this role.

Spectators:  all spectators need to be on the opposite side of the court to the players bench.  Please let the coaches do their thing, be respectful of the umpires and the opposition.  Cheer wildly when we score, but don’t forget to acknowledge great play from the opposition.  Remember, the world doesn’t end if our teams don’t win, support your child with encouragement even in defeat.

Go Bullants!!!!

Saturday Netball – 25 August

It’s a big Saturday down at SCNA with the end of the season proper and presentations for NSG, Juniors Go and the Volunteer of the Year.  All presentations will be on Court 2 and your support in getting players organised and sitting ready for the presentation would be appreciated.

9:50 am – NSG Set presentation
10:50 am – Juniors Go presentation
11:50 am – Volunteer of the Year Awards

Bye:  Comanche

Seniors
After last weeks wash out, Senior draws have been updated.  As this is the last round  before finals, we are going to try and get all rotation rounds completed.  Seniors Div 1 & 3 will play 3 mini games starting at 2 pm.  Please check the draws carefully and know where your court changes are.  Seniors Div 2 only need one more round to complete the rotation however please note your game starts at 3:30 pm this week.  As we had a team join this division in Week 3, points towards the finals will be calculated from Round 3-11 inclusive as that represents one whole rotation; everyone plays everyone .The ladder will be adjusted following the completion of round 11 to remove points from round 1 & 2.

All divisions: in the event of rain again this week, finals will be calculated based on points at the last played round.

Canteen Duty: Mohawks (11:50)
